Easter Basket Cake

*There is a new version of this cake, link at bottom of the post*

Only two weeks of sophomore year left!?  Where has the time gone?  Out my 12th floor window, that's where.

But today is Easter Sunday!  Happy Easter!  (:

A couple of weekends ago, I made a KitKat M&M cake.  And yes, it was as good as it sounds.  I saw a picture of it on Google Images (not that a sit at my laptop and click through hundreds of images of cakes with awesome decorations when I get bored or anything..) and I knew it would be super easy to make by just looking at the picture.

This is the first one I made.

As you can see, I should have bought 10 packs of KitKats, instead of 9.

But it still turned out all right!  Basically, all you have to do is bake a cake, ice it, stick KitKats around the outside, and pour M&Ms on the top.  I was getting the KitKats and noticed the dark chocolate KitKats next to them, and I just thought, "Welp, now I have to get these!"  The ribbon is optional.  It's just there to look pretty.  That's it.

Needless to say, my friends freaked out.

And then my mom asked me to make an Easter version for this weekend!  We went to my grandparents' house yesterday for lunch and we had this for dessert.

Easter M&Ms!  I have to give credit to my mom, though.  The Easter version was all her idea and she baked the actual cake while I was driving home for the weekend.  I just stuck it all together.  My mom bought both sizes of KitKats so we decided to alternate them, which made the cake look Easter-basket-y!

I recommend using the bigger KitKats because it's easier to pour the M&Ms on top.  Unless, of course, you're specifically trying to make a cake that looks like an Easter basket. (:

Happy Easter!  Christ is Risen!

EDIT:
Hey, everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I've made a new version of this cake for this year (Easter 2012). If you want, you can check out the new one here: Easter Basket Cake (Round 2).

    1. The taller kitkats are the regular size. The shorter ones are the mini size than can be bought on the candy aisle of grocery stores. I got the regular size straight from the boxes of candy in the check out aisles. Hope this helps!
